Zenjiflava: Carrot and cumin salad

The carrots grown in Zanzibar are not perfectly shaped, scrubbed to a glow or packed into sticky plastic bags, Western supermarket style. On the island they are organically grown, hauled out of the sand at sunrise, jam-packed into a baskets, whisked off to the markets and sold the same day. They may not look perfect, but they are full of natural goodness and very crunchy. Read more »

A year ago two journalists got together on the East Coast and started talking about creating an online magazine for Zanzibar. A three-month power cut, a surprise pregnancy and many long distance inter-continental business meetings all provided some obstacles, but somehow this magazine was created. Read more »
