Zanzibar nights
Photographer Gemma Pitcher has taken a series of shots of everyday nightlife in Stone Town, from cafes and beauty salons to barazas where men sit playing games such as bao and karom into the night. This is the real Zanzibar, the one that continues much the same once the tourists have packed up and gone home.
About the photographer:
Gemma is a British writer, photographer and traveller, based in Australia, who used to live in Zanzibar and who has authored books such as Swahili Style. She recently completed a round-the-world trip, stopping off in Zanzibar, via Colombia, Haiti, Cairo and Istanbul.
