As part of the Jahazi festival fringe programme, a collaboration by twelve wondeful artists from Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland brings you Zanzibar In a Sea of Portraits. Please come with friends and family to the OLD FORT and help paint a beautiful mural and meet the artists.

Art event runs on the 3rd and 4th September, from 10am.

“We pass each other on these narrow streets, on a piki-piki, people sitting on the baraza, but do we really see each other? The act of drawing is the act of slowing down - the act of drawing someone’s portrait is the act of really taking someone in and seeing them with a full presence. This is the power of art.”

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to have a go at painting and let your creativity flow:) Draw and paint a friend, family member or even a stranger, getting help from one of the friendly artist organisers. Whether you are a FIRST-time artist or a LONG-term artist, this is the event for you! Adults and children WELCOME! Watch a sea of portraits emerge over the weekend.
